quiet morning
i see your name
atomized,
in a permanent dance macabre of letters,
parching the paper with their lingering lead touch,
conveying a certain melodramatic air to the venomous sand
embroidered
sometimes with the ice flowers of your voice
and other times with the soft smile of darkness
blooming inside my clock.
do you feel as i do
the heaviness of dawn over the eyelids
when by night words possess me
and when against a black sky tainted with red clouds
the moon travels imperfect
uncaring of my gaze pinning it?
i see your tear
dead,
staining with hushed reasons your calligraphy
and sealing with its silence
my lips.
and in my cup of tea
the slice of lemon floats
on a sugarless surface…

Lili, the “ice flowers of your voice” was EXACTLY the right word picture to draw to lead us on through this poem to the “slice of lemon floats on a sugarless surface”. No particularly horrible events or interactions described here: just iciness, non-connectedness when it is most desired, acidic slice of life remaining unsweetened. Masterful!!!
i totally agree, “ice flowers of your voice” is an amazing image
great one, quiet morning, hot tea, or coffee, and some time to think and reflect.
Cheers.
Happy Poetry Picnic.
🙂
Your choice of words float like lotus blossoms in the sunlight. Just beautiful!
“ice flowers of your voice” is such a potent image – I enjoyed the simplicity of the last stanza – it says so much in a few well chosen words.
wow, those first few lines are just flawless! beautiful read!
