The unseen – flash fiction

Snow falls, dragging slowly the whole world into a white state of being. On the shoulders of my thoughts spores of silence subside, building frore cadenzas meant to replace the worn-out whispers of warmth, too clichéd by now. The landscape around me, turning swiftly into a perfect mise en scène for Andersen’s Snow Queen, ignores my presence. I seem to be both unimportant to it and also incapable of staining with my movements the quiet infinity. I ramble. Idiotically, as I might add, and as someone once said. But then the words were not for me or about me…I should stop. I should respect nature’s desire for stillness and I should freeze in one place, inhaling slowly the clean air and allowing winter to perfume my core with its cold. But I keep pacing aimlessly the fields…I keep moving… maybe I am just a stray snowflake unwilling to settle down…or maybe I am frozen and what happens is that actually the fields go by me, choosing to not see me…but then again, who would really want to see a ghost?…
