reptilian – tanka suite

for a teacher

“listen to your fears
playing, in-between your breaths,
rock-paper-scissors,
claiming a thin primacy
one against other”, he said.

“just like sly serpents
exuviating their skin
they prepare themselves
for the next proper moment
to sneak out into the light –

and after they creep,
within the nest of your mind,
lingers, slithery,
apparently abandoned,
the grayish cocoon of angst,

fed with savage yeast,
birthing ad infinitum
embryos of doubt.
it’s up to you to decide
the right time for taming them.”
