hesperian (Andersen’s “Snedronningen” retold)

sunrise today
was glassy against my eyelashes,
and with each blink of mine
colors crashed like crystal prisms,
hurting my pupils with their ice

suddenly instead of eyes i had mirrors,
reflecting back the drops of beauty
and not allowing sunlight to caress
my thoughts

unsatisfied with the skin of the world,
i thus found myself wandering deep into the core of things
in search for the forbidden

and now i’m caged like a winter embryo
in a whirl of mute snowflakes
groping for daylight
and for warmth

Very, very ethereal, celestial, even! Thank you for this exquisite poem you are so graciously sharing with us here today, dear Lili! It is very true that we can delve so deep inside ourselves at times that we shut out the sunlight and warmth waiting in that friend’s heart just walking towards us. I know I tend to introspection of this type at times. Bless you for such a beautiful expression of these insights.
