cherry petals – sonnet

within the madrigal of cherry blooms
a hidden rhyme completes perfection’s nest –
sun’s essence flowing in the flowers’ wombs
entwines the water’s permanent unrest.
the seeds of light dissolved in nectar sweet
caress the blossoms’ veins with gentleness –
the promise of the fruit will soon replete
the innocent corollas’ graciousness.
so when you take the time to contemplate
the flowers’ whiteness, delicate and fine,
remember they’re not there to just ornate
the branches – each is sunlight’s loving shrine,
and cherries’ blood that stains your eager tongue
is sunlight’s silent song, remained unsung.

  1. Such a beautiful work of art (which is what a sonnet is to me). You have crafted your description of the flowering cherry tree and made as your theme the promise of sweet fruit – an analogy for much that is good in life or people.

I miss seeing your work on Real Toads, Lilly. Do pay us a visit some time 🙂

“cherries’ blood that stains your eager tongue is sunlight’s silent song, remained unsung” What a gorgeous celebration of the fruition of cherry trees! What a delectable metaphor for the timeless natural life-giving forces all around us! Thank you.
