silent

unspoken words
enrich the harvest of ice.

in your voice
under hoarseness songs hide,
repressed,
tickling your throat,
boosting the need for oxygen.

yet you hush them,
painfully aware of their constant agony
and of the metallic taste
left by some septic blade on your tongue
in the name of attar anointed icons –
holy unholiness wholly holed
like swiss cheese
shrined for a bunch of hungry rats.

just remember
that those (otherwise grateful) grey rodents
are not the only animals around…
